Former Dayton teacher pleads guilty to pandering obscenity involving a minor

DAYTON — A former Stivers High School teacher pleaded guilty last week to a child pornography charge.

John S. Findley, 35, of Dayton, was convicted Nov. 20 of pandering obscenity involving a minor (buy/possess obscene material).

Six other charges were dismissed.

Findley is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 19.

The plea was filed less than a week before Findley was scheduled to go on trial.

The former teacher was indicted on seven felony charges of pandering obscenity and pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor in September 2017.

The indictment accused the former teacher of promoting the sale of or spreading obscene material in August 2016.

It also claimed that he filmed obscene images of a minor between November 2015 and August 2016.

Dayton Public Schools placed Findley on leave during the 2016-17 school year shortly after a detective was assigned to his case.

Findley resigned July 9, 2017.
