Firefighters responded just after 4:30 a.m. to the 600 block of Ferguson Avenue on initial reports of a house fire.
Dayton Fire District Chief Andrew Wiley told Hershovitz the amount of fire gave them challenges.
“Crew were unable to enter the structure due to the amount of fire. It was a boarded-up, vacant (house). We normally try to check and see if there are people squatting inside. However, the amount of fire preventing us from doing so,” he said.
Wiley says firefighters have ordered an emergency demolition as the home is a total loss.
