Fairborn, West Carrollton postpone varsity football games for 2 weeks

FAIRBORN — Fairborn City Schools is using game video from last week’s game against West Carrollton to conduct contract tracing after the district was informed of a positive coronavirus test involving one of West Carrollton’s players.

Both schools are postponing varsity football games until Sept. 21.

West Carrollton spokeswoman Janine Corbett said its student athletes and coaches are being quarantined for 14 days.

Fairborn school spokeswoman Pam Gayheart said it was notified of the West Carrollton player’s case by the Greene County Health Department.

“Following the guidance of the Greene County Health Department and the executive order from Gov. DeWine we are mandated to quarantine any athlete that came into direct physical contact with this player,” Gayheart said. “The coaching staff has reviewed the film to the best of their ability to determine which players need to be quarantined.”

Gayheart said the impacted players from Fairborn, which includes a ‘significant number of offensive line,’ are being notified by their head coach today.
