Event venues could face another shutdown under DeWine’s new orders

MIAMISBURG — Governor DeWine announced Wednesday he would be releasing a new order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at large events or gatherings like weddings.

He cited banquets, wedding receptions, and social gatherings as partially responsible for the spike in COVID spreading in Ohio.

News Center 7′s Katy Andersen spoke with the owner of Magnolia Estate in Miamisburg about what’s next for events like weddings.

Tina Gonzalez, the owner, said she was already getting calls from couples about what a potential shutdown could mean for their big day.

“We have weddings this weekend,” said Gonzalez “We already got an email yesterday after the governor’s conference asking what was going to happen and what that meant for her wedding this weekend.”

Gov. DeWine’s new order will require people to be seated at large events, wearing a mask unless they are actively eating or drinking, prohibit dancing and games, and close any congregate areas.

In Wednesday’s address, DeWine said if cases continue to rise, the state would be closing down bars, restaurants, and fitness centers. Gonzalez is worried if that happens, her venue could be next.

“Closing down would be very difficult during this time,” said Gonzalez. “This is a new issue we are dealing with and I think we can get through this. "It’s not a happy issue to deal with, without dancing or games, but closing down would be devastating, awful again.”

The Gonzalez family is working to find solutions for couples to enjoy their special day while following DeWine’s new order.

“It’s been tough, but we keep our heads down and keep working and keep finding solutions for them,” said Julio Gonzalez one of the owners.
