New Carlisle teen dies after boat capsizes in Clark County Saturday

CLARK COUNTY — A teenager has died after being pulled from a lake in Clark County Saturday morning.

According to Jacob King with the Bethel Township Fire Department, crews were called to the area of Osborn Road around 8:30 a.m. to respond to reports of a capsized boat.

It was reported that two people could be seen in the water and one person was possibly still missing underwater, according to King.

Upon arrival, crews met with bystanders who stated that they heard people screaming for help.

Emergency crews and dive teams responded to the scene and two juveniles were rescued from the water.

Crews were able to rescue two teenagers from the water that needed medical attention, according to King. The two teenagers were evaluated and were stable enough that they were turned over to their parents who arrived to the scene.

One teenager was still underwater, and the dive team was able to remove them from the water where they were then taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital in critical condition, King said.

That teen, identified as Preston Jackson, 16, of New Carlisle, died at Dayton Children’s Hospital later Saturday morning, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The teenagers were between the ages of 16 and 18 years of age, according to King.

An incident report from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office indicated that Jackson was in the water for approximately an hour.

The incident is still under investigation at this time.
