Drunk driver arrested after crashing vehicle, injuring at least 1 in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — One driver was arrested after a pickup truck and SUV collided and left at least one person injured in Springfield Sunday overnight.

Springfield Police and Fire were dispatched to the intersection of North Burnett Road and Columbus Avenue at around 1 a.m. on reports of a crash with injuries, Springfield Dispatch confirmed to News Center 7.

A person reported a head injury with “lots of blood” following the crash, dispatch informed officers and EMS responding to the scene, according to emergency scanners.

However, dispatch stated that only minor injuries were reported when first responders arrived at the scene. The victim suffered the injury after a pickup truck and an SUV crashed at the intersection.

The cause of the crash was attributed to a drunk driver as officers arrested one of the drivers on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence, dispatch said.

Springfield Police led the investigation into the crash.
