Preble County man, injured in crash near Eaton, has died

UPDATE @ 9:15 a.m. (Sept. 14): 

Aaron Stobaugh, the 25-year-old Preble County man injured in a crash on Eaton Gettysburg Road near Eaton Wednesday has died from his injuries, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Stobaugh, who the coroner’s office said is from Eaton, died Thursday afternoon. Previous reports from state troopers indicated Stobaugh was from Castine in Darke County.

Stobaugh died on his 25th birthday, according to coroner’s office records.

His cause of death remains under investigation.

UPDATE @ 10:55 a.m. (Sept. 13): 

The driver who suffered “significant” injuries after a crash near Eaton has been identified as Aaron Stobaugh, 24, of Castine in Darke County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Stobaugh was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by a CareFlight medical helicopter. This news outlet is working to learn his condition.

FIRST REPORT (Sept. 12):

A 24-year-old man suffered “significant” injuries when he slammed into a tree after sideswiping a minivan Wednesday evening in the 3200 block of Eaton Gettysburg Road near Eaton.

Sgt. Dallas Root, Ohio State Highway Patrol Dayton post, said the man apparently lost control on a curve, went left of center, sideswiped a minivan, continued off the road and slammed into a pine tree. The engine and steering wheel were separated from the car on impact.

The man, whose name has not been released, has been taken to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. His condition is not known.

Sgt. Root said speed definitely is a factor in the crash, which was reported just before 6:30 p.m.
