District veteran named Springfield High School principal

SPRINGFIELD — A 23-year veteran of the Springfield City School District has been named the high school’s lead principal, district officials announced Friday.

Lisa Cunningham, a Springfield native, has served in various roles within the district, the most recent as an administrator at Springfield High School.

There will be another new leader at the School of Innovation, where Kathleen Lee will assume the role as principal. Lee, also a Springfield native, has been an educator and administrator in the district for more than 30 years. She also most recently served as an administrator at SHS.

The School of Innovation is the second option for high school students in the district and focuses on student success through project-based learning as opposed to traditional classroom instruction.

“With these two at the helm of our high school education programs, I have no doubt that we will see growth within our students and the District as a whole,” Superintendent Dr. Bob Hill said Friday in a prepared statement.

“They know this district, they know our kids and they are both experienced educators and passionate advocates when it comes to our schools succeeding. I look forward to hearing their ideas and supporting them in these new leadership roles,” Hill said.
