DeWine awards over $1.3 million in grants for human trafficking prevention programs

MIAMI VALLEY — Eleven organization in Ohio will receive over $1.3 million in grants to develop and implement human trafficking prevention programs.

Three of the 11 organizations receiving the grants are from the Miami Valley. Crime Victim Services, which impacts seven counties including Auglaize, Mercer and Shelby, will receive nearly $121,000; Dayton Children’s Hospital will receive more than $126,000; and The Salvation Army will receive more that $124,000.

Each program will assist both minors who are victims or at-risk for human trafficking, as well as professionals that serve minor victims. In addition, the programs will expand human trafficking prevention education, direct intervention services and training to minors at risk of victimization.

“Human trafficking is a reprehensible crime that has devastating effects on its survivors,” Governor Mike DeWine said. “These grants show our continued commitment to help protect those most vulnerable to human trafficking and will provide additional support to professionals on the front line.”

DeWine said the grants are from a collaboration between the Governor’s Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services’ Children’s Justice Act Task Force.
