Deadline to renew licenses, IDs and vehicle registrations that expired during pandemic looms

Ohioans who have not renewed their driver’s license, identification cards or vehicle registrations that expired during the pandemic have a month to do so, before law enforcement can begin issuing citations.

Initially the deadline had been Dec. 1, but a new law passed and signed into law last year extended that to the summer.

“If a customer’s expiration date on their DL, ID, or vehicle registration is March 9, 2020, to April 1, 2021, the expiration date has been automatically extended and will remain valid until July 1, 2021,” a release read.

The state does offer most of the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles services online at OPlates.com

Ohio BMV locations across the state are open, however customers are urged to go online to use the virtual queuing system to reserve a spot in line.
