Dayton officer shot: Officers honor detective at hospital ahead of organ donation

DAYTON — Law enforcement agencies from around the Miami Valley gathered Thursday morning at Grandview Medical Center to honor Dayton Det. Jorge Del Rio.

Video from inside the hospital, filmed with permission of Del Rio’s family, showed officers lining the halls as Del Rio was taken to the operating room where his organs were harvested.

Many of the officers were in their formal law enforcement attire to honor Del Rio and his service to the community.

Del Rio was shot twice while serving a drug search warrant Monday night.
