DAYTON — Dayton Live is pulling back the curtain and giving the community a look inside its latest Community Report.

In a normal year, Dayton Live officials said there are nearly 400 performances across their venues, contributing to the organization’s economic impact of between $25-28 million. During the 2020-2021 season, there were just 27 events, totaling an economic impact if $7.9 million.

Chris Wyse, Chair of Dayton Live’s Board of Trustees, celebrated the organization’s year.

“Considering the year we’ve had, the money we lost in refunded tickets, lost venue rentals, etc., Dayton Live came out the other end of this fiscal year in much better shape than we originally anticipated,” Wyse said.

According to the report, total attendance at all kinds of performances and events in Dayton Live venues for the 2020-2021 season was 90,637. Of that number, 7,167 were attendees for all live performances. The other 83,470 were accounted for as attendees at all performances and programs that were streamed during the season.

In the Community Report, organization officials said the Dayton Live staff was “significantly reduced by necessity.” Officials said that while almost 90 percent of the company had been impacted by layoffs and furloughs, hiring has begun as events begin to return.

Dayton Live President and CEO, Ty Sutton thanked local, state and federal leaders that offered programs to help the organization “survive” during the pandemic.

“Without funding from individual, foundation, corporate, and governmental sources, our future would be greatly in doubt,” Sutton said.

Officials said the future for the organization looked bright as ticket numbers are higher than the have been in 15 years.

Dayton Live owns and operates the Victoria Theatre, the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, the first three floors of the Performance Place tower next door to the Schuster, the Metropolitan Arts Center, the PNC Arts Annex and The Arts Garage.
