Suspect in deadly Dayton shooting, SWAT standoff in early December indicted on murder charges

DAYTON — A man arrested for a deadly shooting earlier this month on Noel Court in Dayton has been indicted on murder and other felony charges.

Jeremy Murphy Sr., 29, was taken into custody after a SWAT standoff at a house a few blocks away, according to police. He was indicted today on four counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, two counts of aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence and two weapons charges.

The incident began as a reported shooting at a house in the 400 block of Noel Court in Dayton around 5 a.m. Dec. 4. Police and medics on scene found William Bruce dead from the shooting, records show.

During the investigation, police learned of a potential suspect and located them inside a house on Hulbert Street near Xenia Avenue, investigators said. Officers surrounded the house and requested SWAT units, homicide detectives, and hostage negotiators to respond to the scene.

Following a standoff that lasted several hours, Murphy was taken into custody before 10 a.m., police said.

Police said circumstances surrounding the shooting were still under investigation.
