XENIA — The Firefighters and Company Federal Credit Union has started its yearly journey to donate hundreds of carbon monoxide detectors across the area.

The credit union, formally known as Dayton Firefighters Federal Credit Union, has been donating CO detectors to communities for the past eight years, according to a release from the City of Xenia.

Last week the Xenia Fire Division was one of several departments that received a donation of detectors. The city’s website says the division was given 75 carbon monoxide detectors.

“We are thankful for this very important donation,” said Xenia Fire Division Chief Kenneth Riggsby. “Carbon monoxide detectors save lives, and we want to make sure they are available to anyone who needs one.”

This year the credit union plans to donate 750 CO detectors across Montgomery, Greene, and Miami Counties.

“It is exciting to see this program grow year after year and hear how much the departments appreciate and look forward to the donation to help their residents,” said Shannon O’Neill, Marketing Manager for the credit union.
