Semi hauling Pepsi products loses load in crash on SB I-75 in Piqua

PIQUA — UPDATE @ 2:51 p.m.:

Emergency crews have reopened all lanes on southbound I-75 at U.S. 36 following the crash.

UPDATE @ 1:20 p.m.: 

Excessive speed is being investigated as a possible factor in a crash that caused a semitrailer hauling Pepsi products to jackknife and lose its load across Interstate 75 in Piqua Tuesday.

The crash was reported in the southbound lanes of I-75 near U.S. 36 in Piqua around 11:10 a.m. Tuesday.

The semitrailer hauling the Pepsi products crashed into the back of another semi, causing the first truck to jackknife and spill its load on the roadway.

The driver of the first semi was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to state troopers.

The driver of the other semi was not injured.

The crash and cleanup of the spilled soft drinks initially shut down all southbound lanes of I-75. The right lane was reopened around 12:10 p.m., about an hour after the crash was first reported.

Crews continue to block the left lane for cleanup and it is unknown how long the lane will remain closed.

The right lane of southbound I-75 has reopened at U.S. 36 following a crash involving a jackknifed semitrailer that lost its load.

The semi was hauling Pepsi products with multiple cases of soft drinks scattered across the highway.

An Ohio Department of Transportation snowplow was brought in to help with cleanup to get the one lane reopened.

It was not immediately known how long cleanup was expected to take.

Reports indicate one driver was transported to an area hospital however their condition was not immediately known.

FIRST REPORT

A crash involving at least two semitrailers has blocked both southbound lanes of I-75 in Piqua at U.S. 36.

The left lane of northbound traffic was also initially blocked due to the crash. That lane was allowed to reopen around 11:40 a.m.

The crash involves at least one semitrailer that has spilled its load onto the highway. Initial reports indicate the semi was hauling Pepsi products.

At least one person has been transported to an area hospital for treatment, according to emergency scanner traffic. Their condition was not immediately known, however earlier reports indicate all drivers were out of their vehicles and walking around when fire crews arrived on scene.
