Horse killed, driver flown to area hospital after Darke County crash

DARKE COUNTY — A woman was flown to a Dayton hospital after hitting a horse on U.S. 36 in Darke County Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported on U.S. 36 and Arcanum Bears Mill Road just after 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies said a silver car was traveling east on U.S. 36 when the car hit a horse that ran into the roadway. The driver of the car, only identified as a woman, was flown from the scene by CareFlight medical helicopter for treatment.

Her condition was not released.

The horse was killed in the crash.

The crash shut down a portion of U.S. 36 through the morning while it was investigated.
