Continued unemployment claims drop again in Ohio this week, initial claims rise slightly

Continued unemployment claims in the state dropped again this week, while initial jobless claims rose by several hundred, according to new state data,

The state had 21,868 initial jobless claims filed last week and 260,855 continued claims. The continued claims number includes both traditional claims and extended benefits.

In the last 34 weeks since the pandemic began, Ohio has distributed more than $7.2 billion in unemployment compensation payments to 839,000 Ohioans.

The state has been able to process 95 percent of the applications for unemployment they have received.

The state also has issued more than $6.9 billion in pandemic unemployment assistance payments, funded by federal money.
