TIPP CITY — Dozens of people in Tipp City spent part of their holiday weekend raising money for a family who lost a loved one.
Rebecca Hoskins died after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Saturday businesses in the community helped raise money so that the family could lay Hoskins to rest.
“It still was unexpected, I still felt like...I felt like I got cheated,” Renee Stuckey said.
Stuckey said her mom was a single parent of four.

“She was that person that was willing to help everyone. I was confused as a child cause I didn’t understand it and I didn’t like it because we had to share our home,” she said. “But I understand it now. Now I appreciate the person she was then, I have much more appreciation and understanding.”
She said some of the things that she loved about her mom were how much she loved her kids and the people around her.
“She’s just always been strong and she never gave up on us,” Stuckey said.
Crystal Brower agreed.
She was a single mom at the time that she met Stuckey and found herself with no place to go.
She said Hoskins gave her a place to stay while she got back on her feet.

“She said I can get you a job and got me a job as a janitor where she worked at and I literally stayed with her, worked with her and got to a point where I saved up enough money to get a car,” Brower said.
Brower was in charge of getting the fundraiser up and running.
She found several local businesses to donate items to be raffled off at the end of the night and set up a gofundme to help with funeral and medical costs.
“They were always there for me and now it’s my turn,” she said.
Hoskins’ funeral will be held Thursday.
