Cincinnati Shooting: Public celebration of life scheduled for victim

CINCINNATI — A public celebration of life for Prudhvi Kandepi, one of the three victims in a Fifth Third Bank shooting in downtown Cincinnati, is scheduled for Sunday.

The memorial for the 25-year-old Fifth Third consultant is from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Ramada Plaza in Sharonville.

“He loved his family to the death. His mom, his dad and his sister were everything to him. And then we came into picture after that — his friends,” Yash Yeddulapall told WCPO.

Kandepi was a University of California-Riverside and Vellore Institute of Technology graduate.

“He spread cheer, excitement and enthusiasm — his smile was contagious and his eyes were full of dreams,” read a statement from the Indian American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. “Prudhvi traveled far and worked hard to provide a better life for his parents and younger sister.”

A public vigil for the three killed and two injured was held at Fountain Square Friday.

Hundreds came out to the event, which included a musical selection by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and words from United Way of Greater Cincinnati President and CEO Michael Johnson, Fifth Third Bank CEO Greg Carmichael, Mayor John Cranley and pastors Ennis Tate and Brian Tome.

Richard Newcomer and Luis Felipe Calderon were also killed in the shooting.

The gunman, Omar Santa-Perez was shot and killed by police on the scene.
