Some students said they will have to travel six miles if they want to cast their vote in person.
In previous years, Central State students would walk across US 42 to Wilberforce University to cast an in-person vote.
Now the Greene County Board of Elections has changed its polling site.
Students at Central State will now have to cast their vote at Xenia Grace Chapel.
It’s about a 10-minute drive from campus, but not every student has transportation.
The Ohio Black Legislative Caucus has stepped in to provide free rides to the polls for people still wanting to vote in person.
Damari Lipscomb, a Senior at Central State and a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, told us his organization is working hard to get people to vote, and he will be spreading the word about the free rides.
“A lot of people are not fortunate to have transportation,” said Lipscomb. “So, walking over to Wilberforce was a great thing to do. So, I think a lot of people are very worried about voting, especially not having transportation.”
This isn’t just a barrier people here in Ohio are facing; there are students at a school in North Carolina who protested earlier this month when their polling site was eliminated.
For Central State students who need a ride to the poll, here is the link to fill out a request.
