Centerville deeds park property to Kettering to clarify boundaries between cities

In an effort to clarify boundaries between the two cities, the City of Centerville announced it has deeded a 0.13-acre parcel within Pondview Park to the City of Kettering.

Centerville and Kettering have worked together since 2019 to address boundary adjustment issues impacting 13 properties in the area of East Whipp Road, according to a release from Centerville city officials.

Several were homes with portions of their parcels in both cities.

11 properties transferred fully to Centerville, and two transferred to Kettering.

City officials said Centerville staff mailed letters and hosted meetings with affected property owners with no objections to the boundary adjustment.

Transfer of the pond was the final piece of the boundary adjustment, the city said.

“This is government working as it should. Instead of continuing with a murky status quo, staff in both cities took the initiative to resolve several instances where the jurisdictional boundaries did not align with legal property lines,” Centerville City Manager Wayne Davis said.

Centerville acquired the Pondview Park parcel from the Ohio Department of Transportation about 30 years ago.

The park, which has been part of the Kettering Parks system for years, serves as Ohio’s first self-guided environmental park designed to help people of all abilities experience nature, according to city officials.
