CareFlight responded to the 14,300 block of U.S. 127 to transport Edward Whittaker, 53, of Versailles to Miami Valley Hospital with unknown injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed Whittaker, who was driving a Chevy Cruze, was traveling south on U.S. 127 when he rear-ended the trailer of a Volvo semi that was slowing down for the Village of North Star, the release stated.

It was reported that Whittaker may have fallen asleep while driving.

The semi-truck driver, David Hoskins, 55, of Greenville was not injured in the wreck.

Darke County Deputies, Ansonia Rescue, and North Star Fire responded to the crash, which remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
