Arts ALIVE Festival in Troy displays local and regional artists’ work

TROY — The new Arts ALIVE Festival filled the air with laughter, various art mediums and the smell of food Saturday afternoon at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center.

Numerous visual and performing artists from across the country demonstrated their techniques in the hot summer air. Children and adults were entertained in- and outside the center with ventriloquists, music and art presentations.

Other activities included an interactive graffiti wall, ‘extreme’ face painting, sand sculpting and a magic workshop. There was also an artist meet-and-greet, and a multimedia art competition with a $200 cash prize.

“This is Hayner at its best,” Hayner Center director Linda Lee Jolly told Troy Daily News before the festival. “We are ready to celebrate, and we hope people will come and celebrate with us. We have everything we need — food, music, art.”

Breakfast, lunch and ice cream was provided by the Troy Kiwanis Club, Smokin’ BBQ and Susie’s Big Dipper.

The exhibition at the festival was sponsored with a donation in memory of Troy High School graduate Brad E. Huffaker (1959-2011).
