Three area breweries are taking part in the Black is Beautiful initiative
The initiative started with the Weathered Souls Brewery in Texas and has since spread to all 50 states.
Here in the Miami Valley, Toxic Brew and Branch and Bone Artisan in Dayton have jumped on board along with Alematic Artisan Ales in Huber Heights.

The breweries were given a recipe for the Black is Beautiful beer and 100% of proceeds must be donated to a local organization.
Branch and Bone Artisan Director of Sales, Trevor Sutherland said the brewery chose to donate to the local chapter of the NAACP in Dayton.
“We saw it as a way, considering everything going on right now for us to have a direct impact to do what we do best which is make great beer,” Sutherland said. “We’re really happy to do it. It’s a good way for us to show some direct impact.”
In June the NAACP created an 8-point strategy on police reform.
Since then, the city of Dayton has adopted a 5-point plan including oversight, use of force, trainings, recruitment and community engagement.
“We just felt like that was one that would have the most immediate impact from our effort in the money we’re going to be raising,” Sutherland said.
And during a time with so much uncertainty in their industry, Sutherland said it was a hard commitment but one they felt compelled to make.
“Its hard to take a lot of our business and take all the time in making a batch of beer and having none of that revenue come back to your business,”
The beer is on sale now.
It’s $10 at Branch and Bone Artisan and all proceeds go to the NAACP.
