The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Doctor Singleton Park in West Portsmouth at around 3:45 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls about a crash, WBNS reported.
Initial reports from 911 calls informed that the ATV crashed into a wire, which caused a man and child to be ejected from their vehicle.
Jeremy Bryant, 42, was later identified as the driver and Wyatt Moore, 7, the passenger.
As officers and medics arrived, they confirmed that two people were ejected from their ATV and required treatment.
Bryant was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center, then to Grant Medical Center for further treatment.
Moore was also transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center, then to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and subsequently died.
When detectives for the sheriff’s office went to obtain a statement from Bryant about the crash, they instead arrested him for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. In addition, due to his alleged intoxication during the crash, additional charges for involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment were imposed.
The relationship between Bryant and Moore was not made available during the time of reporting.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Captain Woodford at 740-354-7306.
