6-state trooper project to focus on ‘move-over’ enforcement

Troopers from six states will be joining together to enforce the “move over” law.

The law requires all drivers to move over to the next lane or slow down when approaching a stopped emergency or utility vehicle when they have their warning lights activated.

From 2017 to 2021 Ohio State Highway Patrol cruisers were involved in 51 crashes that were “Move Over” related, according to a release.

The crashes resulted in the deaths of two people and 41 people injured, including troopers.

The enforcement will begin Sunday July 17 at 12:01 a.m. and continue through July 23 at 11:59 p.m.

OSHP will be joined by troopers from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
