HARRISON TWP. — Two women were rushed to the hospital after another woman called 911 for help at Sporty’s Taphouse and Grill parking lot in Harrison Twp. early Saturday morning.
Deputies were dispatched to reports of a fight on 5202 N. Main Street around 1:08 a.m. While en route, dispatch advised shots had been fired, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, deputies found that two people had been shot. The bar was used as a landmark to call for help.
Both victims were transported to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threating injuries.
The sheriff’s office said they believe there were three women involved in the fight with the woman that later grabbed a gun and fired shots. Three shots were fired, all by the same woman.
The bar owner is now pointing out that the violence did not take place at his business.
Howard Mason, owner of Sportys Taphouse & Grill, says the incident took place in the parking lot of an abandoned business next door.
Mason says security guards broke up the fight, but the woman who may have felt she was outnumbered wasn’t through.
He says the incident paints an unfair picture of his bar & grill.
“Kids are here, teenagers are here, it’s not just a bar where you have to be 21 to get in, we actually have families,” Mason said.
Mason says he is happy to hear the two women injured do not have life-threatening injuries. He doesn’t know for sure if the women were ever in his business.
“If they were in here, things were peaceful. We have security guards check people for weapons coming in,” Mason said.
Monday afternoon, sheriff’s investigators told News Center 7 that they have identified a person of interest in the incident and expect detectives to speak with her in the next 24 hours.
Later in the week, they plan to present all the evidence they’ve gathered to prosecutors for review of any potential charges.
