2 south Montgomery Co. communities asked to pass fire levy

MIAMI TOWNSHIP — There is a fire levy for the Miami Valley Fire District, which services two communities in southern Montgomery County.

The levy, if it passes, would replace all of the current fire-related tax levies in the city and the township and property taxes would go up in both communities.

The voters pass the levy it could mean the district re-opening its fire station on Wood Road. It was closed in 2019 as a cost-cutting measure.

That station is about a mile and half from the Austin Boulevard and the I-75 interchange. The department would have to hire more firefighters to re-open it.

Passage of the levy would give the department more money to replace aging fire engines and ambulances and to upgrade their equipment.

The approval of the levy would also mean higher property taxes for people who live in the city and the township.

It would cost the owner of a $100,000 home in either community $385 a year.

In Miami Township, it would mean an extra $160 a year compared to what property owners pay right now.

For someone living in Miamisburg, it would translate to an extra $304 in property taxes every year compared to their current property tax bill.
