The 911 caller said the fire started in one of the back apartments.
We were on Basswood Avenue where a neighbor called 911 and said that there was a fire in one of the first-floor apartments on the night of October 25.
Reports said there was a column of smoke that could be seen coming from the building, and when firefighters arrived, they were met with heavy fire.
News Center 7 spoke with a few neighbors who said there were tenants inside of the building when the fire started
The 911 caller can even be heard referencing a woman and her baby who may have still been inside as people were coming out.
“It’s three of us out here,” a 911 caller explained. “It’s one upstairs. I don’t know if they sleep or what. I’m about to try going in here and wake them up—get them out of the house.”
“Wait hold on a second, but there’s an active fire, so I wouldn’t go back in there,” a 911 dispatcher told the caller.
“Okay, yeah okay. She out here with her baby,” the 911 caller said.
“No one...no one is inside?” 911 dispatcher asked.
“Nope. No one,” the 911 caller said.
News Center 7 reached out to the Dayton Fire Department about what happened, and at this time, we have not heard back.
We can’t confirm whether there were any injuries at this time, but neighbors we spoke with said everyone made it out in time.
