XENIA — The 183rd Greene County Fair is set to kick off today at the Greene County Fairground on 120 Fairground Road in Xenia.
A mix of rides, games, food and other entertainment will be at the fair, according to event organizers.

“Many people think it’s a cliché when we say it takes all year to put our fair together, but as Ripley says, ‘Believe It or Not’ it literally does,” said Kala Benton, one of the fair’s directors.
The fair will go from Sunday, July 31 through Saturday, August 6, starting at 8:00 a.m. each day. The fair will close each night following that evening’s grandstand event.
Admission to the fair will be $8, and it will be free for children under 9 years old who come with a paying adult.
“We’ve been waiting 365 days for this,” Benton said. “It is amazing when you think about it. Just a couple of weeks ago here at the Greene County Fairgrounds there wasn’t much activity and now the people, animals, food trailers, vendors, and rides which move in soon, it looks a little like a scaled down version of Disneyland, and we couldn’t have done any of it without our dedicated staff, directors’, and volunteers. A well-oiled machine.”
