Hundreds of American Airlines flights cancelled; staffing, other issues blamed

DAYTON, Ohio — Hundreds of American Airlines flights have been cancelled due to staffing shortages and other factors.

News Center 7′s James Rider said about 300 American Airlines flights were cancelled this past weekend for various reasons. A combination of bad weather at major hubs, maintenance issues as well as staffing shortage are blamed for the cancellations.

The company said its trying to limit the impact in any one area so the cancellations are spread out; however Dallas-Forth Worth should be the hardest hit area for changes. American Airlines estimates it will cancel anywhere from 50 to 80 flights per day over the next month.

Airlines is just another industry struggling to meet demand after having historic lows during the pandemic.

Micki Dudas, AAA Director of Leisure Travel said, “Travelers are resuming traveling again. Those long awaited vacations are coming. Travelers need to be mindful that they need to reconfirm reservations. It’s not a one and done. We would advise keeping on top of your air reservations, reconfirm with them directly or with your travel professional.”

At this time, it’s unclear how many flights at Dayton International Airport will be impacted by all of the cancellations.
