A University of Dayton graduate and Rice University professor died Friday after being struck by a Metro light rail train in Houston, Texas, reports the Houston Chronicle.
Marjorie Corcoran was on a bicycle around 8:30 a.m. when she was struck on the southbound tracks at 6300 Fannin Street, officials said.
Rice President David Leebron confirmed the professor’s death in a statement that in part reads: "Marjorie was a much-admired longtime professor of physics and astronomy, who worked tirelessly on behalf of her students, Rice, and STEM education.”
Corcoran received a Bachelor of Science from UD in 1972, according to her staff page at Rice University.
The incident disrupted train service while crews investigated the case.
