Connors was on her porch talking to a neighbor when she was shot to death last week in the 25th mass killing to occur this year.
Her husband, Tracy Howard, told CBS News that he found Connors and their dog, Sami, shot and bleeding on their front porch.
Friends and family of Connor are having a hard time wrapping their minds around what happened.
“It’s senseless,” the cousin of Nicole Connors, Charlene Willis, said. “Just none of it makes sense to us.”

As her friends and family released the balloons, her family reminisced on what they will miss about her.
“I want to remember her smile and her jokes and just how she took care of everybody,” a friend of Connors, Alisa Jackson, said.
Despite living in North Carolina the past few years, the Miami Valley was Connors’ home and where she will be laid to rest.
“This is her hometown and she was born here,” Carla Connors, Nicole’s cousin, said. “She went to school here and she has a lot of friends here and this big connection in this community in Dayton.”
