Dayton RTA riders can now buy, store bus fare on mobile app

DAYTON — The Greater Dayton RTA today launched its new mobile fare payment system, the Transit app, which allows customers to purchase and use bus fare with their mobile devices.

The app is free, and offers real-time information. Passengers can buy regular and reduced-fare passes and store them within the app for later use.

Once a passenger has boarded, passes can be activated through the app and visually validated by the bus driver. This process will speed up the boarding process, limit issues at the fare box and make social distancing simpler.

Dayton RTA and Transit’s partnership has been made ahead of the planned launch in order to keep passengers and RTA drivers safer during the COVID-19 outbreak, RTA officials said.
