VANDALIA — Vandalia Police Chief Kurt Althouse spoke to News Center 7′s John Bedell Saturday and said they have increased staffing since Friday’s shooting in Butler Township.
He said this was done because the person of interest, 39-year-old Stephen Marlow, is still at large and known in the community.
“The department wants to make sure citizens are aware they are keeping a vigilant eye throughout their city while the investigation in Butler Township is ongoing,” Althouse said.
Vandalia Mayor Richard Herbst made a statement on Facebook Friday night saying the city continues to monitor the situation and are increasing the number of officers on patrol as a precaution.
“We’ve also cancelled outdoor activities and closed our recreation facilities as a precaution,” he said. “This is a situation we will continue to closely monitor moving forward.”
Herbst said they will remain in close contact with Butler Township authorities to stay ahead of all developments.
