Teenager also facing murder charges in Middletown shooting investigation

MIDDLETOWN — Middletown police have arrested and charged a 16-year-old on murder charges stemming from the deadly shooting of John Booker earlier this week, the second person charged in the death investigation.

>>PREVIOUS REPORT: Person of interested located, in custody in Middletown deadly shooting

Booker, 36 of Middletown, was shot on Yankee Road in Middletown Monday night and later died from his injuries. Police identified Dhameer Haamid Scott, 24, as a person of interest in the shooting and later took him into custody and charged him with murder Wednesday afternoon, investigators previously told News Center 7.

During questioning, Scott told police, through his lawyer, that he was not the shooter, and a 16-year-old was the one who fired the deadly shot. Scott said he handed the teen the gun when they went to confront Booker Monday night, according to police.

Investigators said the teen was located and given a polygraph examination where they later confessed to firing the shot, police said in a media release Friday.

Both Scott and the teen will face murder charges in the incident, police said.

“Due to the fact that both had gone to 1414 Yankee Rd. to confront John Booker, the adult gave the gun to a 16-year-old during the escalating disturbance and the adult fled out of state with the juvenile we are going forward with a charge of Murder on Dhameer Haamid Scott,” Maj. Walter Scott Reeve said in the media release.

Anyone with additional information about the shooting that can help police are asked to contact Middletown police Det. Winters at 513-425-7786.
