Deputies: Man mistakenly shoots friend who he believed was a burglar

SPRINGFIELD TWP. — A 27-year-old man is expected to survive after he was shot early Monday morning by a friend who said he mistook him for a burglar, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the 2800 block of Oletha Avenue in Springfield Twp. around 2 a.m. Monday on reports of a person shot, deputies said in a media release.

The victim was found on the porch of the home suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Investigators said he was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

The alleged shooter, identified by deputies as David Alcorn, 25, told investigators he was sleeping when he heard someone banging on his door. Alcorn said he through someone was trying to break into the house and fired a shot through the door, hitting the victim, deputies said.

Alcorn was later arrested for an active warrant for his arrest out of Summit County, Ohio. He was later charged with having weapons under disability and violating a protection order after deputies discovered an active protection order also based out of Summit County. Part of the order stated that Alcorn was not allowed to possess a handgun, investigators said.

Alcorn remains booked in the Clark County Jail.
