Xenia teacher back in classroom, suspension ends

A Xenia High School teacher who was on administrative leave as a result of a Xenia Community Schools investigation, is back in the classroom.

William "Bill" Dawson returned to the classroom Monday after the school board suspended him for three days without pay, according to Mark Manley, the district's administrative specialist.

Before the investigation, Dawson taught English and coached for the high school. In a letter dated Aug. 8, Manley told Dawson he would be on administrative leave from his role as an assistant football coach until further notice.

Dawson was also told not to have any contact with any of the students at the high school.

His suspension came after he was placed on paid administrative leave.

The district, in a statement released Monday, said, "Xenia administrators received parent complaints alleging nonprofessional relationships existed between a Xenia teacher/coach and Xenia students which crossed the professional teacher-student boundary."

The investigation resulted in Principal Ted Holop contacting Xenia police on Aug. 19 about Dawson. That investigation resulted in no criminal charges for Dawson.
