Wrecked autos on Kenilworth Ave. end domestic row

UPDATE @ 12:40 p.m. Sept. 20: Christopher Johnson was arrested, and is in jail on three felony charges of assault, receiving stolen property and violating a protection order.

The 28-year-old also faces a misdemeanor for endangering children.

The victim told police that he rammed her car at least five times while her daughter was in the backseat, according to a police report.

The child suffered minor injuries, the report states.

UPDATE @ 10:38 p.m. Sept. 19: A domestic situation that included an allegation of car theft led to a two-vehicle accident on Kenilworth Avenue that sent a child to a hospital and left one of the vehicles smashed into a front porch.

Dayton Sgt. Creigee S. Coleman said a preliminary investigation reveals that a young woman told police she was trying to recover her vehicle, stolen by her ex-boyfriend.

The ex-boyfriend, believed to have taken the sedan four months ago, didn't want her to take it, Coleman said.

She made her way to another car and decided to leave, Coleman said, but "he decides to ram her car.... He continues to ram her all the way over here" to the 600 block of Kenilworth.

That's where the car, with their 3-year-old child in the back seat, smashed into the porch.

"Witnesses observed throughout the neighborhood that this suspect was ramming her in the back of the car and she was trying to get away," Coleman said.

She and the child were taken to Dayton Children's Hospital, suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

The ex-boyfriend was taken into custody and is likely to be charged with felonious assault, receiving stolen property and other traffic-related misdemeanors, the sergeant said. Whether she will be charged remains under investigation, he said. Police were interviewing her at the hospital.

Coleman said her side of the story is that her former beau forced her car up into the yard. His story is that she tried to run him over.

Part of the investigation will have to determine whether there is a restraining order in place, Coleman said. He said police have learned that the two have been filing restraining orders against each other in a back-and-forth battle for at least three years.

"If you have a domestic situation, call the police," Coleman said. "Call us out and we'll see if we can solve it."

UPDATE @ 8:57 p.m. Sept. 19: Witnesses say a second vehicle was involved in the incident on Kenilworth Avenue.

A Chevrolet Tahoe is across the street from the address where the car has hit the front porch. The Tahoe is damaged and the driver has been detained by police.

We're hearing the drivers of the vehicles may have been slamming into each other before the car ended up in the yard.
