Student driver among 5 hurt in crash near Greenville

A student driver was blamed in a crash in Greenville Twp. Sunday that sent five people to the hospital.

A 15-year-old student driver was traveling east on Kruckeberg Road just before 1 p.m. when the Greenville girl failed to yield to the posted stop sign at U.S. 127 and traveled into the path of an oncoming Chevrolet Impala occupied by a Fort Recovery couple, according to a release from the Darke County Sheriff's Office.

The teen's front-seat passenger, Amy L. Baker, 44, had to be extricated. She was taken to Wayne HealthCare in Greenville, then transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where she was listed in serious condition Sunday night.

The teen driver was taken to Dayton Children's Hospital. A 15-year-old Arcanum girl, a driver-in-training who was riding in the back seat, was taken to Wayne HealthCare. Neither of the girls' names or conditions were released.

The Impala occupants, driver Dennis L. Parson, 62, and his wife, Carolyn S. Parson, 61, were also taken to Wayne HealthCare, where they were treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The crash remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office.
