Burglar caught inside Dayton home tries to flee out window

DAYTON — Police responding to a daytime break-in surprised the burglar who was still inside the home.

An astute neighbor reported around 3 p.m. Monday that a man got inside a house across the street through a window in the 4000 block of Arcadia Boulevard, according to a Dayton police report.

When officers arrived, the window was open and they could see a man in the living room area.

Police ordered the man out, but he refused. One officer went to the back of the home, where the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Gary Arch Roberts, reportedly tried to climb out another window. He went back inside when he saw the officer.

Eventually, he came out the front door and was handcuffed, the report stated.

Police contacted the homeowner at work, who verified that no one was supposed to be in the house, according to the report.

Roberts was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of burglary, a felony. He remains held on a $15,000 cash bond, jail records show.
