FIRST REPORT

Dayton police said officers had to shoot and kill a dog that charged them while they investigated a reported assault on Tuttle Avenue.

Police said officers were investigating a reported assault in the 1600 block of Tuttle Avenue around 11:40 p.m. Monday when a dog charged at the officer. Police said they were forced to shoot and kill the dog during the event.

Officers briefly issued an officer assistance ‘signal 99’ for more help to respond to the area around midnight, but the request was quickly suspended.

Police said two people were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the original assault. It was not known if the dog or a human was responsible for the injuries sustained.

A third person, the owner of the dog, was hit by a police Taser and was also transported to the hospital.

No officers suffered injuries.
