Mary Christian, who has lived on Chelsea Avenue for nearly 20 years, said she had been watching CBS’ “NCIS: New Orleans” and heard “pop, pop, pop,” what she thought were firecrackers. But while watching the news, she found out Dayton police and News Center 7 were on her street after a man had been shot in the chest.

Police and medics responded to the 1000 block just after 11 p.m. and put up yellow crime scene tape.

“This was houses down from me. I’m very concerned,” Christian said.

Initial reports indicate the victim, whose name was not released, was knocking on doors saying he had been shot in the chest.

Police said the gunshot victim’s injuries are not life-threatening. Police said they were still trying to piece together what happened, and that they did not have any suspect information.
