Man shot, wounded by Dayton police faces weapons charges

DAYTON — A man shot and injured by a Dayton police officer last month is facing several weapons charges.

Antoine Lamar Morrow, who is still a patient at Miami Valley Hospital, was indicted Monday on five felony counts of having weapons while under disability for prior convictions involving drugs and acts of violence, according to a Montgomery County grand jury report.

Morrow, 40, is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 6.

Two Dayton police officers who responded to 603 Rockford Ave. Oct. 12 knocked several times and identified themselves as police officers after a 911 caller said he had been slashing tires.

Officer Clinton Evans shot Morrow once in the chest after he answered the door, pointing a gun at them, Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said during an Oct. 15 news conference.

Officers found a 9mm Hi-Point fully loaded handgun and a knife believed to have been used to slash the tires, Biehl said.

Morrow has a history of violence dating back to 1996 in Dayton, which includes felonious assault and robbery convictions. He had an active arrest warrant for failure to appear in court for a child neglect case, police said.

Evans, who has been with the department since 2013, is on administrative leave along with the second officer. This is standard procedure, Biehl said.

Homicide detectives will investigate the shooting and the professional standards bureau will conduct an internal investigation, and the ATF will trace the gun involved.
