Man admits guilt in Logan Co. underage party

Evan Hoffman pleaded guilty to seven counts of purchasing and consuming alcohol underage during his arraignment today.

Hoffman was sentenced immediately to six months in jail and will be on probation for two years.

UPDATE @ 9:18 a.m. (Dec. 29):

Evan J. Hoffman, 20, will appear in court this morning between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., according to a Logan County clerk.

He’ll be arraigned on seven charges of purchasing and consuming alcohol underage and seven more charges related to underage alcohol possession.

According to the clerk, no murder charges have been filed yet.

UPDATE @ 9:56 a.m. (Dec. 28):

A man shot during an altercation at a residence on County Road 21 on Sunday morning has been identified.

Branden Doseck, 16 was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, where he was pronounced dead, deputies said.

According to investigators, Evan J. Hoffman, 20, had been hosting an underage drinking party at his residence in the 6000 block of County Road 21.

During the party there had been an altercation between several people, including Doseck, deputies said in a prepared statement.

Dosek reportedly left the residence on foot and returned approximately an hour later to the party with a family member and several other people.

A second altercation occurred at the front door of the residence and deputies said Dosek forced his way into the home through a side door.

After inside the home, Dosek and Hoffman were involved in an altercation, which ultimately ended with Dosek being shot by Hoffman, according to investigators.

Hoffman then confronted the group at the front door and discharged his weapon into the front porch, causing minor injuries to two other people, deputies said.

Hoffman was arrested and booked into the Logan County Jail and he was charged with seven counts of furnishing alcohol to underage persons, seven counts of permitting underage persons to consume alcohol and six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to deputies.

Hoffman is expected to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court and Logan County Family Court on the charges and the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case to determine if any additional charges will be filed.

UPDATE @ 3:12 p.m. (Dec. 27)

Logan County Sheriff Andy Smith declined to provide details until Monday about the fatal shooting early today of a 16-year-old boy in a Bloomfield Twp. house.

Smith said there was no need for the public to be concerned their safety as a result of the incident.

Smith said he was in communication with the county prosecutor about the case.

“We expect to be able to release additional information Monday morning after investigators have had a chance to put their paperwork together,” Smith said in an email.

EARLIER

A 16-year-old boy was killed in a shooting incident that remains under investigation by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at 3:53 a.m. to the report of a shooting at a home in Bloomfield Twp. and discovered the teen victim, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Indian Lake EMS transported the victim to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he later died, according to the release.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Marysville Post and Bellefontaine police.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

Other details, including the specific location of the incident and any suspect information, were not released.
