Gunman fails in attempted Subway robbery

An identified male with face covered displayed a black handgun and demanded cash, but received none from the employee behind the counter, according to the Dayton police report.

When the robber entered the store and pointed the gun at the female employee, instead of opening the cash register as he demanded, she turned and ran toward the back of the store, according to the report.

Police said the robber, described as white and wearing a gray hooded shirt and scarf to cover his face, then exited the store without any money.

Police planned to review the surveillance video of the incident in an effort to identify the criminal.

Police are searching for a gunman tonight who robbed a Subway shop.

The robbery was reported around 7:15 p.m. at the restaurant at 2731 E. Third St. in Dayton.

The suspect fled on foot. A K-9 unit from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist Dayton officers in tracking the robber.
