A 39-year-old New Carlisle dad who said he fell asleep was taken to jail Friday night, charged with child endangerment after his 3-year-old daughter was found walking -- alone, nearly a mile from home -- trying to find the neighborhood park.
A woman who was a stranger to the girl stayed with her until Clark County Sheriff's deputies arrived. They were able to find the girl's home, where they found the sleepy dad.
Bryan Edman, of Styer Drive, is separated from his wife and had visitation, sheriff's Sgt. Scott Elliott said.
The sheriff's communications center got a call at about 6:52 p.m. about a young girl walking alone toward Raynor Park, 1350 Fyffe Ave., Elliott said.
The child had been walking the neighborhood at least 40 minutes, looking for her father and wanting to go to the park. Elliott said the woman's children may have seen the child initially and alerted their mother.
When deputies were able to locate the child's home, they found it had no running water and was in deplorable condition, Elliott said.
The girl was released to family members Friday night.
Edman was taken to jail on one count of misdemeanor child endangerment. He has since been released, according to jail records. Edman likely will be in court Monday for his initial appearance Elliott said.
