Dunbar HS student arrested for bringing gun to Dayton school

DAYTON — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday after he was caught with a gun at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.

Dayton police responded around noon to the school, 1400 Albritton Drive and arrested the juvenile on suspicion of carrying concealed weapons, illegal weapons on school premises and having weapons under disability for a prior felony conviction, according to a Dayton police report.

School personnel discovered the gun and contacted police about the student and weapon, Dayton Public Schools spokeswoman Marsha Bonhart said.

“He was removed from the school,” she said, and the incident is now a police matter.

No other students were involved, and no threat was made, Bonhart said.

The school notified parents through typical communication methods, such as automated phone calls, she said.
