Driver detained after leading police on chase

An impaired Celina driver who led Coldwater police on an 8-minute chase early Thursday morning was taken into custody, police said.

The incident occurred about 12:22 a.m. when a officer witnessed a vehicle with no headlights pull out of a parking space and failed to yield to a vehicle that was traveling on East Vine Street in Coldwater, according to a press release. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Jordan Lockwood, drove around the block and traveled north out of the Village of Coldwater on state Route 118. A short time later a Mercer County Sheriff's deputy deployed his stop sticks on the highway, just south of the intersection of state Route 29, and deflated the two driver side tires on Lockwood's vehicle, the release said.

But the suspect continued driving east on Route 29 for a short distance before coming to a stop. An unidentified female passenger who jumped out of the car and ran toward police was detained, officials said.

Lockwood admitted to taking LSD and was transported to a hospital for treatment, police said. He was charged with failure to comply, resisting arrest, OVI, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, three counts of driving under suspension, failure to yield, a traffic control device violation and no headlights. He's being held in the Mercer County Jail on $250,000 bond.
