Dayton bomb squad called to Darke County home

The Dayton bomb squad was called to an abandoned home in Darke County on Sunday after explosives were found inside.

The New Madison Police Department found the explosives when they were checking a vacant home in the 200 block of South Main Street for criminal activity, according to a news release from New Madison police.

The Main Street area was blocked, and residents advised to evacuate, witnesses said.

The explosives were removed from the residence and destroyed, according to the release.

The New Madison Fire Department, Darke County Sheriff's Office and Tri-Village Rescue also responded to the scene.
